Bad Dog?
Scout “The Wonder Dog” is in serious trouble. Try as we may, Honey Bunches and I cannot stop his determination to jump on strangers. Maybe it’s our fault. While not completely hermits, we don’t get a lot of visitors. Scout gets the run of the house and behaves with all 4 planted on the floor until someone new arrives. Then the “Mad Puppy” syndrome kicks in and I can’t seem to stop him! After all the rain, I would suggest you stay in your car. You are risking your clean clothes. This happened again today.
While Scout and I were heading out to work on the addition, I noticed a mini-van pulling in to the drive. I quickened my pace and called Scout, hoping the visitor would knock on the door where Honey Bunches was located. No such luck! She flashed the lights, gave a yell and got Scout’s total attention. Since Scout was going to welcome her, I felt it was my responsibility to try to warn her. She exited the mini-van with a political flyer in hand and headed straight for me. I yelled, “He won’t bite”, about the same time his muddy feet hit her light gray dress.
I soon found she was a Democrat running for the county Associate Circuit Court Judge. Since I don’t have any information on her opponent, I would give her my vote, just for acting like the muddy, mauling dog was not distracting. On the other hand, Scout “The Wonder Dog” is a Republican. If I don’t want all my newly planted trees dug up, I may have to side with him!
A Mighty Gardenin’ Man
The cold and wet weather is sure slowing garden growth this spring. The cabbage looks pretty good, but that’s about the only thriving veggie! Three 50 foot rows of taters planted 3 weeks ago show no sign of emergence. Lettuce is about a half inch tall, but turning yellow. With a week full of rain in the forecast, we decided to finish planting most of the garden and hope for warmer weather.
We started planting sweet corn and beans, but as usual, I got distracted. “Scout the Wonder Dog” was intrigued by my garden digging tool. Soon we were in a competition to see who could dig the furthest the fastest. Like “John Henry” I took on the “digging machine”. Dirt flew, sweat dripped, and in the end, it was a tie! The decision was made that while I dig straighter and further, Scout can dig deeper and move more dirt. As you can tell from the photo, I was resting, and Scout was ready for a rematch! Too bad doggie, gotta finish planting.
With the competition out of the way, we planted green beans, okra, horticulture beans, radishes, and at one edge we even planted Honey Bunches’ bulbs and flowers. The only thing left to do is convince Scout the competition is over!
Spot’s On My Windows
So far 2010 has been a real pain. Slick roads, broken tractors, and frozen waterers were just the start. If you add in the transmission going out of my wife’s car it gets worse. If you then figure in the loss 2 computers in a week, it starts to get a little frustrating!
The computer used for the radio shows and most of the blogging around here was slowing down. Since we were offered a free upgrade to Windows 7, we took it. A little word of advice… Do not load Windows 7 and then allow Norton Utilities to clean the registry. It comes out a little too clean! After a few trips to the computer store, a couple downloads, and some dents in the credit card, we finally had the required software to reload windows.
I have been too busy working to fix it myself. Lucky for us, Scout is a computer geek, and got the whole thing going again. I was quite impressed with his skills until I found he had deleted all audio, video, and photos from the last year. If he were working at a professional company, he would have been fired! I guess we can’t really fire him since he is just a dog. Besides, I have to admit, the Milk Bone screen saver he downloaded is pretty cool.
